Her first release, "I Specialize In Love," reached number two on the dance charts in May 1982, crossed over to RB, and even won the singer a 1983 Rhythm Blues Award for Best Single. Despite the quick success, the business side of her label association quickly turned sour. She had no money when she went to Las Vegas to accept her award, and had to hitchhike a ride from the airport to the ceremony.
Norma Jean Wright (born in Elyria, Ohio) was the lead vocalist of the soul, RB and disco group Chic, from 1977 to 1978. She left Chic in 1978 to begin a solo career, billed as "Norma Jean". I Like Love are typical Chic-style disco anthems, and they are very effective in conveying an exhuberant party atmosphere.
